Officials obviously were incapable of handling the situation and should not be doing "such important games" where they have to call more experienced umpires. How do we get on that list and do we get paid a game fee for it?

In my experience, typical with young umps (college age) getting intimidated by influential coaches. The opposing team was from a local "training" facility where parents pay big bucks for their kids to play on their teams. Other coach said similar call went against them in World Series last year. That's why he was "positive" about the call. Guess money can't buy everything...
