Did anyone see this game yesterday? Palmeiro was batting with two strikes called against him, and he checked his swing on a pitch that hit him. Palmeiro starts to run to first, and the Athletics asked Angel Hernandez(PU) to ask Larry Young(3B) if Palmeiro swung. Larry rings him up for strike three. Apparentally there was some sort of controversy about this play. But to me, it seems as if this play was handeled well.

Taken from the previous link:

"I'm not happy about the call," Mazzilli said. "(The umpire) said it hit him. I don't know how. I don't know where. I looked at the tape, he said (Palmeiro) swung. (The pitch) hit him. It doesn't matter."
-Lee Mazzilli (Orioles Manager)

Haha...what a brilliant quote, skip.

I'm glad Skip has such a firm grasp on the HBP rule.

I think the argument that he should be making is that:

the ball did not hit him, and he was merely trying to avoid getting hit by the ball. He made no attempt to strike at the ball.
