My wife is considering getting new custom license plates for my car. I was thinking about something to do with my umpiring. Any suggestions?

Keep in mind that it must be 8 numbers/letters or less, spaces count as letters, and has to stay "clean".

A few of my own ideas:

GR8 UMP
U R OUT

Friend of mine has: RNG EM UP - I guess spaces don't count as letters here.

I don't know why anyone would want to advertise that they are an official AT GAMES. I remember reading Luciano's book and one rule I've always remembered is that you should never park in a space reserved for the umpire/official if you want to have a working car left after some calls go against the home team.

I agree with Rich.
You also may consider a small "bullseye". ;)

wow I am impressed Patrick. If I was you, I would not advertise it. I know you are proud to be an official, so am I, but others could damage your fine auto because of an excellent call you made that they did not agree with.

I gave NJ Motor Vehicles several options for an umpire-related vanity plate for my motorcycle. Somebody already had

BALL4
STRIKE
BLUE

But I got

SEZ U

which I'm happy I got, since STRIKE might have had people thinking I was some sort of labor organizer, and BLUE is just a color to most people. BALL4 would provoke insults from people who think my strike zone is too tight.

I saw one ASA ump with

UMP 3

NJ prohibits obvious combinations of letters, as well as any combination that might lead some kid to shoot up his school: BLD, KLL, DTH, MRDR, BMB, etc.

One Italian guy chose the plate WOP (plus a number), but they ended up taking it back from him. I don't know whether or not they refunded his vanity plate fee or gave him another choice.

What a great idea. Identifying your car as belonging to the umpire.

How about:

KEYMYCAR
DUMBUMP

Very interesting topic.

One of the umpires in my organization has a really nice little sports car and has personalized plates that say "THE UMP". I once asked him if anything has ever happened to his car because of that and he said he's never had anything happen to it.

I'm considering getting vanity plates for my car when I move to Nevada this Summer. However, rather than showing I'm an umpire, I'd show that I'm a hockey referee (my first love...). But it sure is tough finding something descriptive in the 7 letters Nevada allows. *sigh*

But for an umpire. . . hmm....

7 ININGS (How much HS ball do you do?)
FLY BALL
STRK ZON
NFLD FLY
3-2 CNT
PLAYBALL

Mine says "OFYSHE 8" but that is because "OFISHY 8" was taken....

I'm in Illinois but wont be for to much longer so if you are in Illinois and want that plate wait a bit cause it will be back out there.

Also can be done:

OFYSHY 8
OFISHE 8

I do football and basketball as well...
