I just received my West Vest Platinum in the mail the other day, and after trying it on I have some concerns. Such as the bulkiness, (it looks huge on me), but also it doesnt seem to fit high enough around my neck. I was wondering what you other guys think b/c your advice/past experience is important. Do u guys think the Honig's K1 is just as good protection wise but cheaper/lighter? Thanks.

To my thinking, the West Vest Platinmum appears best suited for those using the scissors stance. The West Vest Gold is better for those who work heel to toe or a squared off stance. (I really don't know what works best for those who "work" from the knee, probably an old raft protector would be fine since most of them are too lazy to get up between pitches anyway.) ;)

What surprises me is your comment about the vest not being high enough around your neck. From the photos I've seen and looking at umpires who are wearing one, it appears to offer about the best collarbone protection of any on the market. Are you sure you have the straps adjusted correctly?

Hey, I resemble that remark. I work from a knee, AND use a Platinum. I've got mine dialed up so the breast plate is at the base of my neck. Full coverage. I too was worried at first, until I pulled those top straps so tight I can just barely put my noggen through.

Plus, chicks dig RoboCop. Go with it man. Couple it with my plate coat, and I'm Frankenstein.

That's the how most folks I've seen wear the platinum appear. That's why I couldn't understand the complaint about neck coverage from the original poster.

I like the shoulder protection of the Gold better, but I wish it had the same neck protection of the Platinum.

I do HS & above. I use the WV Platinum and I love it. I too thought it was bulky when I first got it but after the first couple of games, it seemed natural. The vest does not cover the neck in the standing position. Once you assume your stance, the vest rides up a bit and covers everything. I have not had any problems; I am 250 lbs and use both the sissors or the box (depending on my back condition).
I've let my son (age 15 @145 lbs) use it and he loves it. He is waiting for delivery of his WV Platinum. So that's a big transition - tall & fat (me) to tall & a toothpick (my son). I think for the money, you cannot by better protection.

One thing the guys around here do is roll the shoulder pieces before the game. That keeps it up where it's supposed to be.

I am planning on buying the Gold model (which I believe has been discontinued) if any one knows where a good deal is on a closeout A3210.

I put my hands behind my back and keep my upper torso semi straight. I have had two back surgeries, so this is the most comfortable... (not that it hurts)
