appeal?

Playing on a field with no fence, just OOB markers. R1 on first, little pop up in foul territory, F5 catches it in bounds, but continues OOB. Time, award R1 second. Is R1 subject to appeal if he doesn't go back and tag first before going to second?
Thanks in advance

Yes. The award is just the right to advance without being played on by the defense. The runner must still comply with the base running requirements.

For example, if the runner (in a different play) had been awarded third -- he must still touch second on the way. He can't just cut across the infield directly to third (subject to appeal).

Good point Bob. He can certainly do it...but a decent coach will properly appeal.
