Scene from 1982 MLB Game
I stumbled upon this video from a 1982 Braves/Dodgers game where part of a fence collapsed, and umpires had to place runners. A heated argument then broke out between the umpires and then Braves Manager Joe Torre, and video/audio is captured. Caution: Although the foul language is edited, you may not want to play this video at work as it is very heated. I have a question that I thought maybe you umpires would know. I listened three or four times to what the umpire says around the 1:15 mark, and it sounds like he says "We don't get any kind of cam or anything." Does anyone know what he is talking about? That had me baffled.
P.S. I wonder how long the Joe Torre of today would have suspended this 1982 version of Joe Torre ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4KO...ature=youtu.be |
Maybe he meant "camera"?

Nice find!
I remember watching this game live, and Torre was right -- they should have allowed Horner to score. In the umpires' defense, they probably decided that since the broken fence was the Atlanta fans fault, they would resolve any doubts on the play against the Braves. |
Sound
I believe what the umpire said was "we don't get any carom or anything." I think he was talking about how the ball bounced off the wall.
