Pitch count disagreement between coaches
The umpire is not required to keep track of pitches during a game. However, if a visiting team coach says the pitcher has reached the max for the game, and the home team states the pitcher has "x" number of pitches left, what is the proper course of action for the Umpire? Is there none and the visiting coach just needs to officially protest the game?

This is going to vary by state but the way we're told to handle it here is that the home book takes precedence and we are not involved in player eligibility issues. The other team can file a protest with the league but the umpires will do nothing else.

We were told there will be a designated pitch counter and the number they come up with is the final word. Not contestable in any way.

Mark and I have not attended a meeting in Michigan yet, but in Ohio if there is a dispute we are to tell the coaches that it is not within the umpires jurisdiction and if they have a complaint that they are to take it up with the state, and then we are to restart the game immediately.

In NC, the coaches are required to meet after the game and sign each other's pitch count record which must be submitted to the state office the next morning.
Umpires are not involved. |
