Batter drops the bat.
OBR: 1 out and R1 is stealing on the pitch. The pitch is thrown in a manner that would center the batter. The batter accomplishes a herculean feat by jumping back and avoids getting hit by the pitch. In the process of avoiding the pitch he releases the bat and it falls straight down and lands with one end on the plate. Simultaneously the catcher receives the pitch and steps forward to throw to second. The bat contacts the catcher's shin guards. The throw fails to retire the runner at second.
What is your call and explanation? Thanks! |
