As luck would have it, this happened to my partner and I on Saturday. We showed up an hour before our game to the park, not a soul around. We waited, I called my assigner, BSed in the parking lot for a while and then took off. We both are getting paid. Easy money.

I told her that we received Arbiter emails on Friday, May 13th (five days before the "game") reminding us of the game and that we had sent her an email on Wednesday, May 11th, a full seven days before the "game". I asked her why didn't my email on May 11th cause her to respond to me about the "game" (readers: please keep in mind that Mark and I had umpired at her school at least six times in the last three school years so she had received reminder emails from us before in the past) and her response was: "I am too busy to read my emails." She said that she would call our assigner to see what went wrong.

The plot has thickened, more to this story will follow.

I've changed my mind. You should get every penny.

You all should get paid in full. Maybe the AD will then decide it's worth $200 to read her emails. And respond.

I'm a softball ump, but this is all the same stuff here.

Do you get paid by the school, or the assignor? All sports around here get administered by BOCES, which is a county wide purchasing co-op, they run the trades education, etc. They have an athletic coordinator's office who schedules games, schedules officials, etc. And all sports contracts are negotiated as one. VERY rarely do we have any problems, so when I had exactly this about the same time, I knew I was going to get paid. (we get a paysheet after every month that we sign and submit....and wait two weeks to get paid )

They took over the paying to forstall just kind of this thing, as I am assuming the schools have already paid into a fund. When I started many, many years ago, we got paid by individual schools - and THAT was a PITA......

As an assigned using Arbiter, there is a trick assigned (dishonest ones) can use. If they delete the game from Arbiter is completely disappears from everything. I had an assigned do this to me once.

I will never do this because it is completely wrong, but it is possible. Situations like this are the reason I never delete emails and print my Arbiter schedules monthly.
