Kevin Finnerty The Wilson you mentioned is a perfect starter hard-shell. It's affordable and has adequate protection and padding--unlike the bargain hard-shells. If you move up, you may not need to upgrade from this one.

IowaMike I'm 6'2 and I have the Honigs K-1 14 inch protector. It's the perfect length for me, although I carry more of my height in my upper body than my legs.
