Jurassic Referee M&M Guy wrote Seriously, try it again. (And this time remember to drink more!) It really does come out great. While I usually agree with the "drink more brownpop" sentiment, it ain't a necessity. Just take a churchkey and pop a few more holes in the top of the beer can. That'll git'r'done.
rainmaker Jurassic Referee wrote Just take a churchkey Oh, my gosh, you are, indeed, OLD!! and btw, I'm assuming this recipe won't work with glass beer bottles?😃
Mark Dexter Snaqwells wroteIn spite of M&M's slanderous guess, I did in fact open the beer can prior to cooking the chicken. I did not, however, drink enough of the beer prior to putting the chicken on top of the can. I won't make that mistake again. 😃 Just remember Julia Child's advice - one cup for the chicken, two cups for the chef!

Keep in mind that he is a college graduate with a major in opening beer bottles with a plastic lighter. 🙄

Rich mick wroteI know. I know! I learned a trick last week -- opening a beer bottle in a hotel room is easy if you use the handles on any drawers (clothes drawers, typically) in the room. Just stick the bottle under the handle and pull. Church key. Indeed.

Just stick the bottle under the handle and pull. Church key. Indeed. It's even easier than that. Set the edge of the cap against the desk, dresser, or night stand, and hold the bottle with one hand. Pop the heel of your other hand against the top of the bottle pushing the bottle down. The cap comes right off, and the damage to the desk is neglible if you use a newspaper.

Well, just give it a try and let JR know how it went ! ...Or where it went. 😮 500 degrees ain't that hot. I normally oven fry chicken @425 for an hour.
Adam It was actually closer to 550 if memory serves, and it was hot enough to burn the ends of the legs off. The flame lasted a while as well. 🙂
