Why did every team do that?
Doesn't feel exactly right.

1) Any idea if any team has #42 retired for somebody other than Jackie Robinson?

2) And -- other than #42 -- what's the only number retired in honor of two different players?
[/B]

1) No.

2) #10 by the Expos--Rusty Staub and Andre Dawson.

IIRR, Major League Baseball retired #42 in Robinson's honor on the 50th. anniversary of his first game for his breaking of the color bar.

Mmmmm...kay.
Thanks, JR.
One of my first ball gloves was a Jackie Robinson model, ...sometime in the '50s.

Oops. I guess it's not the "only" number then. I was thinking of a different one. Figgered Dan would've come up with this one already.

Is this too late to affect the election?

It's true, it's true......

Dan must be busy. I'm sure he knows this.

Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey of the Yankees -- #8.

That's the one I was looking for. Next question, what happens if a player whose contract has expired doesn't file for free agency? Since he's no longer under contract to any team, doesn't that automatically make him a free agent? What's the point of filing?

And. . . Is Willie Randolph gonna help the JV club next year?

My family is in the middle of a move and we've been packing up boxes all week. I don't normally think of myself as a pack rat, but in going through an old stack of books, I came across the Sporting News 1996 Baseball Yearbook, featuring previews for each team.

Here are a couple quotes that Dan and JR will find interesting:

Franchises on the Rise:
#2. Colorado Rockies
#4. Baltimore Orioles

Franchises on the Decline:
#1. New York Yankees [Remember this was 1996! 😮 ]

Meet the New Boss:
Joe Torre, New York Yankees: Torre was the second manager fired last season, when he was let go by the Cardinals. Guess what? He'll be the first manager fired this season.
Davey Johnson, Baltimore Orioles: The Orioles should have hired Johnson a year ago instead of Phil Regan. Johnson has been a winner wherever he has gone, and there's no reason to believe that the Orioles won't be perched atop the A.L. East at season's end.

Is it possible to be more wrong than that?!?!
