Question
Is it ok to show a coach a yellow card vs telling him/her verbally. -John

It depends.
In games played under FIFA Laws of the game (LOTG), which is most US non-scholastic play, you only tell the coach.
In games played under NFHS or NCAA rules, you show the card.
