What the hay! Let's keep up with the stupid comments Packer makes during the Duke/Kansas game. Here's the first one.

#1 - "Good recovery there. I thought we'd have steps." Made as a Kansas player was running and trying to gain control of a pass.

#2 - "Everytime, the referees have been consistent on that play." Speaking of the three PC fouls called in the first half. I guess as long as they call the same thing "everytime" it doesn't matter whether they're right or not, as far as Billy is concerned.

#3 - "I don't agree with that call." Shot was stuffed and called a held ball.

I don't think I can stand anymore. Is the Pitt game still on?

Smile Pitt game is on out here.

But I am in the Midwest.

I guess "Thank God" is probably a little much?

Peace

4- "Uh-oh! That ball was in the cylinder!" Ball comes off the rim and is toucjed by both teams. Even replay showed it was off the rim.

Good grief.

5- "If he had just not swat it over the basket," after a Duke player swat a shot that had hit glass and was on it's downward flight. An obvious case of GT, not BI.

What an idiot!

I'm done!

I can never understand how this guy became so famous or judged as being knowledgeable about the game.

As soon as I heard this last night, I immediately knew there would be "new thread" about Packer's comments. If there is anyone with a bigger ego in college basketball, I don't know who it is.

Does anyone have an email address for cbs sports? I want to beseige them with messages criticizing Packer and Raftery. They make it unpleasant for me to listen to a game. I will also add that they need to give their announcers rules training.
I think I will set up my machine so it will send a message every hour on the hour for a week.

Texas-UConn game. Kareem Abdul Jabbar said that a ball that lodged between the rim and the backboard had last been touched by Texas, as if that should give the ball to UConn. When they came back after a commercial, someone else ( Verne Lundquist I think) clarified the correct ruling: possession arrow to Texas.

Question When talking about Billy Packer......

.....isn't the phrase "stupid comment" redundant?

What??? Raftery rules!!! While every announcer may miss a ruling every now and then, at least Raftery has kept up with the rules for the most part since he stopped coaching, unlike Packer.

And what's not to like about somebody taking it "to the tin" to "SEND IT IN BIG FELLA!!!" With the kiss!!!

And I'm sorry, but "...and Verne Lundquist, team X starts out....MAN2MAN!!!" is worth watching the whole game. It's even better when Syracuse has to start the game on defense, because then "Jim Boeheim's Orangemen start out...*pause*...
in a 2-3 zone...*pause*...with MAN2MAN principles!!!"

While Packer's just a tool on a soapbox, Raftery IMHO supplies honest, fun, and real color commentary to each game.

So in closing, lay off my boy Bill Raftery with the nickel-dimers!!!!!

New game, same stupidity.

"I can believe the referees aren't getting that net down." Ah, Billy, the ball/towel boy got the net down.

Good grief

This isn't an exact quote, but he just said something like,
"I'm not for reseeding. I'm for matching the highest ranked team remaining against the lowest." during a discussion about should the Final Four be reseeded in the Kansas/Arizona game.
