Pistol Pete Memories ...

I know that the Forum is an officials website, not a fan's website, but I know that there are a lot of officials who are also fans, and some, a very few, are NBA fans. If you fall into this fan category, please check out this YouTube link to see some of "Pistol" Pete Maravich's highlights. I happened to come across this this past weekend. It is well worth seven minutes of your time, whether you're old enough, like me to remember "Pistol" Pete when he was alive, or whether you're too young to have seen him. He was one of a kind. Enjoy.

Pistol Pete NBA action is much different than LeBron James NBA action.

The hair, the shorts, the socks......the memories.

A great player, playing with flare and skill, below the rim. The good ole days. A true wizard with the ball. Thanks for sharing BillyMac!

About 3 years ago, my son was playing varsity ball and came home from a game one day and said : "Dad, who's Pete Maravich?". I asked him why and he said "Some guy came up to me during halftime warm-ups and said I looked and played like Pete Maravich". His hair was kinda long at the time. I was so proud, it almost brought a tear to my eye. I told him that it was probably the nicest compliment he'll ever get about his game.

I'm going to send him this link.

Thumbs up

Great video. I remember Pete well. Perhaps my favorite part of the video was him shooting the "floater" over Kareem. What a touch!

Nice words of praise from Pat Riley, too. Plus - the Red Auerbach sequence is priceless.

Bought my sons the movie "Pistol" for Christmas one year...it's pretty cheesy acting, but a very good depiction of what Maravich went through in his HS days. Absolutely changed the way the game of basketball was played.

Can you imagine what his scoring average and point totals would have been if he was in the freshman eligible era and had the arc?

I was watching a Penny Hardaway mix yesterday and they had some similarities but yeah Pete was unique. I have an nba instructional video with him in it. i think that wrist pass is on the video. come to think of it maybe Red is the host. too bad I don't have a vhs anymore but should be easy to find one.
