Here is a Correctable Error situation that I witnessed last night from the stands as I had a son playing on
Team A. (Middle School)

Late in the game and Team A is ahead by 2 pts and have the ball in their front court. Team B fouls A1, and Team A is in the bonus. Foul is reported and A2 shoots the first free throw and it is successful. Team B calls time out which is granted. During the timeout a Team B player informs the coach that he fouled A1 not A2. Coach tells referee and referee agrees he made a mistake. Two man crew and they get together and decide to keep the free throw made by A2 on the board and then put A1 on the line for one free throw. Oops! Give me some feedback.

I think most officials dread correctable errors because they happen few and far between. Any other correctable scenerios that you have witnessed or encountered, let's hear them.

No free throw, but does TO stand?

Rule 2-10 Art. 1 defines a correctable error for permitting a wrong player to attempt a FT. Art. 4 says that the FT should be canceled.

Should the coach be charged with a TO since a correctable error was discovered even though he called the time out for a different reason?

Agreed. The mistake was discovered in time, so the free throw should be cancelled and readministered with the correct player at the line. Since the time-out was not called specifically to question a correctable error situation, the time-out remains assessed to Team B.
